Birdfeeding
birdfeeding is a community started on January 1, 2023. It's all about birdfeeding, birdwatching, and other topics relating to birds. It also touches on nature in general, and observations that may effect bird activity such as local weather. Both text and image posts are welcome.Community resources include posts about birding events, nurseries that sell seeds or plants attractive to birds, bird identification apps, the benefits of birdwatching, and other useful materials. knitting meemster knits another purple and grey shawl
I'm friends with knitwear designer, Noriko Ho. Last spring/summer, she asked for test knitters for her MKAL (mystery knit-a-long) shawl. It took me way too long to knit to be helpful as a test knit for her, but it's finally done! I used US 4 needles, and the yarns I used were Anzula Nebula in Opal (grey with silver sparks!), Koigu Painter's Palette Premium Merino in P439 (bright purples), and Yarnarchy Liberty (muted purples and grey). I love the alternating mix of patterns and colors. The result is subtly and pleasingly complex but so big I had to block half of it at a time.

Summer’s end
The garden is all but done, now. We have harvested as many tomatoes as we can, and only a few green peppers remain. The pumpkins were brought in early because of bacterial wilt and rodent damage. Cucumbers were pulled up in late August due to wilt. All in all, though, it was a good season.
We put up ten pint jars and three quart jars of tomato sauce. Salsa was made from the remaining green tomatoes which wouldn’t ripen: two pints canned and a quart-and-a-half refrigerated.
