7 pounds

I watched '7 Pounds' tonight after reading dadadadio's post on it.  Thanks for posting your thoughts about it, I loved it.

I found it almost agonizingly suspensful.  They created such a world of tension and sadness, I didn't know where it was going and I liked how it kept me thinking, trying to fit the pieces together, which I didn't complete until the very end.  It's rare to get a movie that unfolds so slowly, I watched the specal features and saw the director is French which probably explains it.  Will Smith was a revelation.  I have unjustly characterized him as always being the happy go lucky, hero, charmer type, that I thought he played in most of his movies.  He does seem charming, but in this movie, he is transformed by grief, almost unrecognizable sometimes.  I'd say I'm a fan now.  Bravo.

Heat wave today.  Escaped to Alameda with a friend when the apartment hit 100, it was a bit cooler out there with the sea breeze.  We wandered around the shops until the canned AC chilled me to the very bone, it was glorious.  Did my grocery shopping too.  My budget is tight the next couple weeks.

It's all ready in the 60 degrees and getting cooler.  It's staying in the 60's tomorrow.  Sister is coming over and we're going to the Eat Real Festival in Jack London Square.  It's the first year for this event, can't wait to see how it is.  I've heard good things about it so far.

It was just like at the movies here.  I ate a lot of popcorn and too much chocolate.  Long Live Saturday Nights!

SPOILER ALERT for those who haven't seen the movie

Don'r read this if you did not see Seven Pounds.

You're more fortunate than I in regard to not having the movie come together until the end. Early in the film they show the 911 call that he makes later in the story. The moment I realized he was suicidal, very early because of the 911 clip, I started to figure this movie out.

When they showed the flashback of his father taking he and his brother to the Aquarium, then he bought a jellyfish to the room, I deduced suicide by jellyfish.... which preserves the organs.

I do have a problem with figuring out movie endings. When he was with the hockey coach in the hospital and the nurse said, "We're ready for you now.", I knew he was donating a kidney and the entire story unfolded for me.

Seven Pounds is a great movie, I just wish they didn't have the 911 call at the beginning. That call tipped off the story for me.

Will Smith is a much better actor than most of his roles would suggest. I would highly recommend 'The Pursuit of Happiness' ... another fine performance by Smith in a serious role.

I agree with you about the 911 call in the beginning, I think it was unnecessary. And while I got the pieces-suicide, how he'd do it, and what he was giving, I didn't have it seamlessly put together until the end. I will say, I try not to try hard to think ahead and put my theories in place, I want to get what the filmmaker is saying.

But then again, I could just be slower than you!!

It surprised me. I thought it was so original. And so dark and agonizing, which I like! I'll check our Pursuit of Happyness too, same team.

I don't think it has anything to do with being slower, or less attentive. I'm the kind of guy that likes to shake presents before and guessing what the gift is before opening. I've annoyed many people over the years with correct guesses.

I always play detective, try to find the key pieces of information, connect the clues and figure out the end before they give it to me.
