I agree with you that we need something better than the healthcare system we have. Any system that leaves millions of people behind is deeply flawed.

This, coming from a man with good employer-provided healthcare for 30 years. I have never been uncovered, nor has my family. However, being 'covered' guarantees nothing in a for-profit system where insurance companies make decisions over doctors......but I'm off the topic of your post.

My only problem with Obama's plan is the claims he's making that it will not add to our deficit. C'mon Mr. President, when was the last time the Feds ran a social program that did not run wayyyyyyyy over budget?

NEVER.

I don't trust the government to run any program effectively or efficiently, but who else can we trust, the HMOs? I think we're up the creek without a paddle regardless of what happens next.

Regarding his address to school children... anyone stressing education and dedication to improving our children's lot in life is okay with me. It kind of makes me wonder why previous presidents didn't address the schools of the nation.
