I spent hours in Target today, knocking things off my list for Burning Man, I'm suffering hugely from sticker shock now. I poured a big glass of wine and decided to release it to LJ.

Last year I remember how hard it was to prepare for my trip to Florida after about 7 weeks after the assault. It's this fake anxiety that feels miserable. Even though I'm excited and liked what I bought. I'm sure money has something to do with it to, I haven't spent money in almost a year and now, oh well. It's Burning Man and I really am stoked.

Today I bought:  6 pairs of boyshort undies, super cute, since I guess if I'm not naked, my undies will be showing and I wanted a style for maximum- keep the dust out of there-, plus bike riding comfort, 2 pairs of funky over-the-knee knee socks, 2 pairs of funky-again tights, 11 little cloth-colored notebooks and pens to give as gifts (a dollar each!), 2 plastic watches (a dollar each, I don't wear a watch normally, but may need one there if I try to see timed events), glow-in-the-dark necklaces, sunscreen, facial towelettes, cetyaphyl cleanser that you can use with or without water....I think that's it. But more is needed, ARRGGGHHH!

My friend asked if I wanted to go to an event in SF tomorrow where artists are selling all kinds of cool clothes for the playa, but I passed, I have to shop in thrift stores. I'm a little jealous, she's buying some LED butterfly bra top. I don't have a full outfit yet or maybe I do, I don't know.

A little at a time, I still have days and days to go!  After our Monday meeting I'll have a firmer idea of what I'm missing and go from there. I think it's going to be a week of thrift stores. I still have no bike decorations.

This morning I went to a festival in north Oakland put on by youth for fresh, green living. Pretty cool. It was all hip-hop artists and people I normally don't hang with and of course it was fun, I talked to a lot of people. One of the major organizations here, the Ella Baker Center, was sponsoring a mural event, a portrait of Oscar Grant made with red, blue, brown and white ribbons that we tied onto wiring. It was therapeutic and felt very real and I loved being with these young hip guys and listening to them talk and laugh and talking with them.

My boss lady has been threatened by a thug for a while now and she had the most awesome security detail. They were security for the whole event, apparently any hip-hop event has to have security detail and these guys were bad ass. Good looking Black men of all shades, shaved heads, long long dreads, inbetween, uniforms, nice.  We were positioned to the left of the stage and the boss of the company was hanging out behind us. Lady is important.
