Here the government sort of wants people to have to carry ID papers around with them. There is outrage and it's a huge point of contention, and I think the gov't may be forced to drop it. Coming from the US where I always had my license on me, it doesn't seem like a big deal, but people here are against it because I think they see that it could be a first step towards "having to show your papers" and that makes them really angry and apprehensive.
I don't know why this is rolling out now... my AZ friend says the US is feeling scarier and scarier. I can't blame him.
