I'm aware of snarkiness. One minute there is a funny smart converation going on and than snark slides in from someone. Some go along with it, I bristle inside and but try to shrug it off, not give in, but don't physically swat it down.

I think I used to be snarky. I suspect much of if it was based on insecurity and not comprehending past the wit and laughter. Like attracts like. I considered it more as sarcasm at the time. I almost want to read the book by David Denby and may. Snark-"A tone of teasing, snide, undermining abuse, nasty and knowing..." After too many years trying to make a relationship work with an alcoholic guy who didn't love me (ahhh, youth!) I made an extremely conscious decision to stop the sarcasm, sniping, 'playful fighting banter' that filled far too much of our time. It wasn't hard to stop.

Don't get me wrong. I'm no pollyanna, I have a biting ironic sense of humor at times, but I don't aim to hurt. I think most of us outgrow it. I'm trying to think if I know any older snarky people, I don't think I do.

There's a fine line between snark and sarcasm. I love a good sarcastic joke or comment out-of-the-blue. Someone said (I forget who) that it's the lowest form of wit. I don't agree .... unless the only intention is to be snarky.

Snarks are cutting. They're looking to put someone down if front of others. I think snarks are generally insecure. They must put someone else down to raise themselves.

There is a snarky among close friends that is okay. My buddies back east (since high school) are nasty on the golf course or at the poker table. It's very funny. After 30 years we know it's our way of saying, "I love you man.", and laughing about it.

In our workplace we're snarky but it's totally in jest. Some of one one-liners we insert in our conversation are hilarious. The guys know it's a joke and will always have a comeback of their own.

This may end up being a post in my blog. I guess that would be a blogjacking.
