Sunday and Comfort food
Feb. 8th, 2009 06:47 pmLast night was really cool and put Oakland in a good light which is not an everyday occurrence. We met at Van Cleef's for a drink and I had fun bantering with the owner. The place is tiny and close and yet dense with characters and paintings and stuff and bursting with fresh grapefruits. Think I'm going to make it my place for when I want a drink after work and may not have a friend to go with.
The Fox Theatre is fabulously exotically gorgeous! Rococo style, ornate. Michael Franti was the best best best...He is so political and so bay area minded with the reggae world thing going on, it was completely transportive. (kind of missed the sultry sweaty atmosphere I've previously danced to reggae to, but got over it) Perfect for the grand reopening. We had seats, but it was an on your feet the whole time show, dancing and a lot of singing. Pretty fun.
Today woke up with major blahs though. Read a long time in bed, then came out and once the first cup of coffee was in me, decided on some comforting food. Often to me, the comfort is the quantity. Made a batch of couscous with garbanzo beans, garlic, parsley and munched away reading the Sunday paper, then realized had completely over indulged. Moved the party to the sofa where I found Mystic River on a regular channel and watched it, completely enthralled. I appreciated it more the second time. When I watched it the first time, I also watched 21 Grams and they were both so grim, and Sean Penn so intense in both, I got them a little mixed up in my head. Mystic River, was great today though and dark enough for my dark mood today. During the frequent and interminable commercials, I made a fast batch of peanut butter and chocolate cookies. Oh yes, I was in serious chow mode.
Can't wait to get to yoga tomorrow morning. Have been absolutely loving my yoga download classes, but I need the extreme wringing out of Bikram...
