My thoughts on writing, and why I write, are in my profile. There was a time last fall when many of my blog posts were writing about writing.
I read a few books on writing to help my thought process and improve my work. Since I don't have a college education, or background in writing or literature, I thought reading a few books might help smooth the rough edges.
Feedback is good but I find most people are uncomfortable giving honest critique. I joined a writing group on LJ but found it to be a waste of time. It was no more than back-patting and when someone did offer real critique they were attacked...."What makes you the authority?"
I have tried to write fiction but I usually lose interest. I'll get an idea, start writing, but my enthusiasm fades. Besides, I find the real world and real people far more intersting than fiction or fantasy.
