                        T’was the night before Christmas and all ‘round the earth,                                   
people opened their hearts to acknowledge a birth.
Something perfumed and beautiful rose from the land,
wafting through forests, oceans and deserts of sand.

Despite hard times for some and desperate for others,
people smiled and bowed at their sisters and brothers.
Some celebrated prophets with loving traditions,
while others rejoiced in more peaceful conditions.

The lunar eclipse on the night of the solstice,
gave cause for millions to gaze at its brightness.
Staring as one, filled with hope at the sky,
people mirrored the awe of the journeying magi.

Gifts as varied as snowflakes were chosen with care,
and given whole heartedly like warmly wrapped prayers.
People gave smiles and music and hugs and poems,
while others brought meals and helped at friends’ homes.

Stories were told of a man that flew in a sleigh,
and a smiling plump man who prayed night and day.
They sang of the woman who gave birth in the hay
to a son who grew up and said  love even your enemy.

The people, they talked of the enlightened ones gathering,
and ceaselessly teaching and spreading their blessings.
So the people practiced, they breathed, loved and gave.
The peaceful and loving were known as the brave.

The night before Christmas became every night
and people all over took great delight,
in creating a world where peace and love reigned,
and how to stay strong when light darkened or waned.

They knew each was a flame shining light into dark
Every person was necessary to imprint their mark
And if ever one became lost, stumbled or fell,
from both sides they were lifted and told ‘all is well.’
