The wind put on a spectacular performance Saturday morning. Starting while it was still dark, by about 9, wind was careening through the hills, whooowwshing down the streets and between buildings; and flowing in waves through the windows like it was being pushed.

And so I had a personal symphony. The blinds rattled against the metal levers and glass, the long chimes of the doorbell swung into each other, the capiz lampshade became a wind chime.  Doors slammed shut periodically until I secured each one.  It was magnificent.

I welcomed everything the wind had to offer, making my place feel more like outside than in. Pollen, earth, life!, all blowing steadily through, making me feel I had an altar on the top of a mountain.

I lit incense to take advantage of the cleansing of the old, tired and redundant energies of me and my home and to help send new thoughts out.

A little later I lit my sage smudge bundle and smudged myself, the rooms, and certain objects.  What a glorious inspiring morning.

And then by about 1, the wind tapered down to nothing and it was a very hot, dry day. I cleaned up, did some yoga and read.  Later on, I began getting ready to go to a house party featuring a local artist and a wine tasting with a friend.

Getting ready in the heat was, as always, challenging.  I went outside around 7:30, to wait for my ride. Of course it was a little cooler than my hot apartment.

The party was nice. I love the concept of the house party. This couple usually features jazz musicians who have quite a following. Tonight was art and wine. They make wine, people could bring some and they had some to mix it up. Tonight was all cabs. They decanted it all into unmarked but numbered bottles. We tasted 10 and wrote our thoughts about each one. At the end of the night they told us what each was.

It’s interesting to see how different people’s tastes are. The local winemaker’s two wines were the most popular. Interestingly, the two high-end wines, expensive wines, were the least popular. Two under $10 bottles were rated good and great.

Now it’s Sunday.

It’s almost 1:30 in the afternoon and I don’t feel the heat yet. The windows are wide open, the shades are raised just a little, but shut, so it’s a little dim, but a little air is flowing through, it’s still cool from the night though.

I think longingly of living in a home that had thick walls, like in southern countries, that keeps the temperature moderate. I like to avoid air-conditioning whenever possible. I love that it’s not necessary where I live.

I had planned to run errands late in the day, in the car, to escape the heat. Which I will do, but I’m not sure it’s going to be as bad as yesterday.
